Lifting Another up....

I believe that in order to have a happy employee you need to support and speak to the human condition.  What does that mean?

What I mean by this is that we have innate needs and tendencies.  This applies just about to all human beings.  We have a need for food, clothing, a safe place to stay and grow.  We need to be a part of something larger and believe it or not we are pack animals.  I would not have truly understood this unless I had not gotten a big dose of being excluded to help me understand.  It wasn't until I started to study horses with the dream of owning one that I saw it.

Exclusion to a herd animal means death.  With horses if they want to punish a herd member they exclude them.  A misbehaving horse is kicked out.  In the animal world it opens that horse up to extreme danger.  A lion could pounce and protection from the other horse family members would not be there.  When we exclude people in the work place it triggers a feeling of danger in us.

If you are being excluded then perhaps stop to think about this and maybe that is why you are feeling anxious.

The best job I ever had lifted me, taught me something new, trusted me and helped me grow.  I wasn't excluded.  I was included and trusted.
